Tourism: Greece closes to Italians. Austria rejects opening borders with Italy.



Greece may be a top vacation destination, but for the British, Americans and Italians dreaming of getting away, the country will be off limits for some time. The government in Athens has left them off a list of 29 countries from which Greece will start accepting visitors, as it scrambles to mitigate the damage that the COVID-19 pandemic has spelled for its biggest money-making industry: tourism. 

The tourist flows of Italians to Greece exceed 1.5 million of tourists per year. Hellenic Republic relies heavily on tourism: Greece generated in 2019 revenues of 19 billion euros from tourism



Austria will open its borders to Germany, Switzerland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary in mid-June. Croatia, along with Italy, Spain, Greece and Slovenia, is not on the list yet

The tourist flows of Italians to Austria exceed 1 million of tourists per year. Italy confirmed the primacy of first tourist destination for the Austrians. The tourist flows from Austria to Italy last year were recording figures in sharp increase
